Eye shapes and styling is a hard skill to master. We all have different eyes, lashes and face shapes which means we cannot all have the same style of eyelash extensions applied. Have a look at your friends and family’s eyes taking notice of their eye to brow ratio. Do they have small or large eyes?

Are they close together or far apart? Below are some of the most common eye shapes, each one special and unique.

Choosing the correct style is also called Lash Map (pink lines), this is determined by the eye shape, the natural lashes as well as the eyebrows.

The most common styles of lashing are: Natural, Dolly and Cat

Types of curls

J-CURL:

Is the closest to the human lash. There is actually also an I-Curl which is even straighter but I have never ever heard of anyone using it.

B-CURL:

Is slightly curlier than a J- Curl, but still considered very natural looking. I use this curl a lot in the inner corner or on ladies who want an extremely natural look without any lift.

C-CURL:

Is the most commonly used and widespread curl. It has a nice curve and looks vey flattering.

Almost like a lash perm or lash lift but not too over the top. Within the C- category we also have CC Lashes

CC-CURL:

This curl is a mixture between C and D and gives the client a beautiful look, not too curled and not too straight just in between. This is my favourite curl.

L-CURLS:

Gives a lovely lift to clients with natural downward growing lashes, suits Asian clients also, makes the retention better.

What are Lash Mites?

Eyelash mites—a.k.a., Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis—are passed from person to person and live on the face, typically around the eyelash follicles (that’s where they lay their eggs). They feed on the mucus, sebum, and oils that people tend to secrete from their facial pores and glands surrounding the eye.Some people have more of these mites than others—say, if you’ve got especially oily skin, or make it a common habit to sleep in your makeup.

The mites can also flock to your skin if your eyes are inflamed or irritated.

What do you do if you have lash mites?

RECONSIDER LASH EXTENSIONS

Although lash extensions can be worn by those with very mild cases of blepharitis, people with moderate to severe blepharitis should refrain from getting eyelash extensions until the issue clears up. If you have eyelash extensions and mild blepharitis, make sure you cleanse the lashes and eye area regularly, and consult a physician if your symptoms persist.

SOOTHE WITH A WARM WASHCLOTH

To ease irritation and inflammation and soften the skin around the eyes, place a warm, wet washcloth over your face. Once the washcloth has cooled, repeat the process with a new one. Do this for several minutes or until the discomfort is sufficiently reduced.

THROW OUT CONTAMINATED PRODUCTS

If getting rid of your makeup was part of your initial treatment plan for your blepharitis, ensure that, once the condition has subsided, you purchase new products. Contaminated items like mascara wands, sponges, and eyeliner should be thrown out.

PULL OUT THE GLASSES

You should never wear contact lenses during a blepharitis flare-up. Contacts can further irritate the eye, cause painful itching and swelling, and slow the healing process. Instead, switch to glasses so your eyes can properly heal. If you suffer from blepharitis, you know how debilitating dry, itchy, and swollen eyes can be. With these helpful tips, you can help keep blepharitis away, and get back to a happy lash line.

Eyelash extension after care

Keep your lashes dry for at least 7 hours
No swimming, steam rooms, saunas or facials for 48 hours
Use only water based make up removers and cleansers. Oily/cream based products will shorten the life of your eyelash extensions.
A foaming cleanser MUST be used on your lashes atl east 3 times a week to help prevent eye infections and help ensure your eyelash extensions last the life of the natural lash. We recommend Lash & Brow Cleanser as it is specifically formulated for safe use with eyelash extensions
Regular cleansing will keep your lashes healthy, your eyelash extensions lasting loner and will help prevent a build- up of natural oils, dust and make-up.
Avoid rinsing your face directly under the shower stream; instead bring the tepid water up to your face using your hands
Avoid exfoliants around the eye area

Lash Hygiene

Step by step daily cleansing process for clients.

Regularly cleaning your eyes and eyelids with lash cleanser will prevent blepharitis from recurring and help reduce inflammation.
Apply lash pure cleanser to the top and bottom eyelids and scrub for 30-60 seconds daily.
Lash pure cleanser contains tea tree oil—an essential oil with powerful antiseptic properties—which can aid in the treatment and prevention of blepharitis.

Eyelash Cleansing

Cleanse lash extensions at least 2-3 times a week, or every night if you’re oily or a regular eye makeup wearer.
Use a specific lash extension foaming cleanser to ensure you’re getting an anti-bacterial solution on your lashes to maintain eye and lash health. Using a lash specific cleanser will avoid potential glycols, oils and other no-no’s for lash extensions that are often found in regular facial cleansers.
Avoid using products containing oils around or on your eye area. These include cleansers, moisturisers, cleansing oils, aromatherapy oils, spray toners, coconut/rosehip oils, eye creams, and even your shampoo and conditioner! If you use cleansers that aren’t safe for extensions you must take care to wipe the cleanser off your face rather than rinse, as residual product will wash into your lashes.

The difference between consumer products and professional lash extensions.

Strip lashes = consumer product e.g. you can buy in the shops and apply yourself at home, you do not have to see a lash technician to apply these products. These lashes are temporary and good for one night out. The strip Lash Adhesive is nowhere near as strong as professional eyelash extension adhesive, this is why it is so easy to buy in the shops and apply at home. You can not compare eyelash extension adhesive to strip glue adhesive

Eyelash thickness

Eyelash extensions are created with different diameters for different purposes. Thickness 0.15 mm is most common for classic lashes,

0.10 mm could be used on very fine lashes or can be placed with another .10 mm to create a volume/2
dimensional effect.
.07 mm
.06 mm
and .05 mm and 0.3 mm thicknesses are used for Volume lashes.

The number of lash extensions in a fan should vary depending on the thickness of your natural lashes and the thickness of the extensions being used.

For example; most frequently used is the .07 mm with 3 extensions in a fan, but a lash artist could also use .05 mm extensions with 5 lashes per fan, depending on what they feel the natural lashes can handle, MEGA VOLUME .03
Tip: The thickness of your natural lashes will effect what we can put on as extensions. Too thick, too long, or too many can damage your natural lashes.

Eyelash extension length

Your eyes can carry multiple diameters, curls, and lengths in your lash arsenal so that you can customize your client’s lashes while simultaneously setting them up for a long-term lash relationship.
Applying lashes that are too long or too heavy can cause long-term damage and prevent the lash follicles from producing healthy lashes. If you used the same lashes on a client with thin, fine natural lashes that you do on a client with thick, coarse naturals, one of those clients is getting a disservice.
For Example; a client with 5mm natural lashes vs. a client with 11mm natural lashes, should not both be carrying 13mm extensions on their eyes. Using the Size Matters isolation tweezer helps me when I need to explain to my clients where their NL measures up and what that means for lash expectations, especially if a previous artist has placed extensions on them in the past that were too long or heavy. The Size Matters tweezer has a ruler along the edge of
the backside to show you how long the natural lash measures up.
Tip: if you wear glasses do not go longer than 12mm.

Every hair on our bodies including our eyelashes follow a natural growth cycle. We are born with a specific number of follicles, and that number pretty much remains the same as we age. It is important to take care of your lashes so that they remain lush and full throughout your lifetime. The Life of an Eyelash Eyelashes exist for protection. They activate the blink response so that dust, dirt, debris and other foreign objects don’t get lodged in our eyes. And here we thought eyelashes were just to enhance our beauty! The upper eyelid holds about 90 to 150 lashes, while the lower eyelid has about 70 to 80. Each individual eyelash is programmed to reach a certain length (3/8 of an inch on average), fall out, and then re-grow.

Eyelash growth cycle.

An eyelash undergoes a three-part growth cycle:

Anagen (growth) phase
Catagen (Transition) phase
Telogen (Resting) phase

Illness
Pregnancy

Hormones in the body can greatly affect the lifespan of your eyelash extensions and cause a surge in lash loss so your eyelash extensions might not last as long while you are pregnant and after you have a baby.

Exposure to oil based products or glycerin, moisturizer, sunscreen, eyeliner, mascara, make up/foundation or even sweat/oily skin.

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are used to enhance the length, curliness, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes.

Eyelash extensions first became known in the early 1900’s, they were first recorded on. actress Seena Owen in 1916 in the movie intolerance. Now in the 20th century eyelashes. are a worldwide trend. In 2008 Aesthetic Korea Co., Ltd. began to manufacture products. as semi- permanent eyelashes became popular in Korea. However due to, South Koreas annual rise in labour costs, many manufacturers have moved from South Korea to China or Vietnam. It is no surprise why eyelashes are so popular today, they make you look and feel better, you can enjoy an active lifestyle including swimming, they save you time in the morning getting ready and they are easily maintained.
